WATER TREATMENT

The industry that purifies our water

Today, the needs for pure, clean water are more important than ever. At COCARBON we offer a range of efficient activated carbons to clean water, both for public and private institutions.

Our carbons can be used independently or in combination to meet the needs or legal standards in water treatment projects.

Water in Peru

Since 2012, the country's most important water treatment company, Sedapal, has used activated carbon for water filtration in its La Atarjea treatment plant.

In 2015, Sedapal estimated around 180 pollution points (Marco Vargas) in the Rímac River, which explains approximately 80% of the water that supplies a third of Peruvians. In 2019, Sedapal announces 900 pollution points (Francisco Dumler) in the Rímac River. In both cases, the three main causes are population garbage, industrial effluents and mining tailings, which not only affect surface waters but also end up causing a negative effect on groundwater.

Behaviors of this type can be observed throughout all regions, such as in rivers:

Amazon
chira
Huallaga
Llaucano
Locumba
Mother of God
Mantaro
moche

This forces water treatment companies to use more and more chemicals in the water to treat it, which results in less natural water.

Not only are good products required for this type of task, but also a structural change in culture. Getting to a sustainable Peru will not be easy, but we must start somewhere.

water

COCARBON's specialty. Effective and cost-efficient option.

Whether to fuel a water treatment project in any sector or to comply with DS-031-2010, we offer activated carbon capable of filtering the most common contaminants from surface or groundwater:

Algae such as Geosmin and 2-Methylisoborneol

Coloring or flavoring

Disinfectants such as chlorine and its derivatives

Endocrine disruptors such as pesticides

Organic elements resulting from decomposition

Pharmaceuticals and personal care products

Protozoa like amoebas

Viruses and bacteria such as coliforms

Water re-usage

Sustainability is a pillar of COCARBON, so reusing water is key in the current circumstances. We offer activated carbon, essential in wastewater treatment (WWTP) or drinking water treatment (PTAP) processes.

This solution is considered to allow water to be reused for 50% of the cost and with 50% of the carbon footprint that the alternative/complementary reverse osmosis method offers.

Water from ponds, aquariums and swimming pools

Removing organic components from this type of water is crucial since they are harmful to the health of people and animals. Due to its better adsorption kinetics, necessary to make chloramines react, COCARBON offers a catalytic solution for these cases. Commonly adsorbed components:

Acetone

methylene chloride

Phenol

Naphthalene

Trichlorethylene

among others
